Halloween Costume Ideas
Haunted houses are open for the season, pumpkins are being carved into ghoulish shapes, and candy is being sold by the pound…You know what that means – Halloween is almost here! As fun as dressing up can be, the process of deciding what to dress up as can be difficult. Most people want to have a clever costume concept that is relevant and cute. Each year, I notice how it's the current events and popular culture that drive costume ideas. Remember the year every other person dressed up as a Colombian miner? Or the Joker? Or Lady Gaga?
Since it is soo lame to dress up as clichéd fairies and witches (though we’re guilty of this too), here’s a handy list of top costume ideas, driven by current events in 2012. What do you think will be the most popular Halloween outfits this year?
1. Big Bird
While we’ll all see a good mix of Romney and Obama look-alikes this year, some creative folks will go the extra mile to dress up as Big Bird. Regardless of your political views, this costume will be a big hit (with both kids and adults)!
2. Katniss Everdeen
With the huge Hunger Games fan following (us included), Katniss Everdeen is sure to be a popular outfit. And why not? Just wear khaki pants and boots, braid your hair, put together some fake hunting equipment, and you’re good to go! American Apparel is selling some cheap Hunger Games props so you can complete your outfit for a low price.
The Batman films have a major fan following, and although the caped crusader is a mainstay, it’s always the villains that draw interest and costume creativity. Bane was the formidable antagonist in the third Dark Knight installment and will surely be popular amongst the guys this year…though we’re not quite sure how they’ll eat or drink…
The Olympics drew millions of viewers this year and made Americans swell with pride when the fab five brought home the gold with their flips, tucks, and jumps. For a sexy outfit that shows some sass, I’m sure the leotard will be popular this year! It also makes for a good group outfit if you’ve got 5 girls interesting in dressing up together.
This Gangnam Style song and music video went viral this summer (if you’ve been under a rock and don’t know what I’m talking about, check it out here) and seems to have drawn universal praise for the catchy beat and amusing dance moves. I can’t wait to see multiple PSY’s parading the streets in the signature dance move!
What are you dressing up as this year?
